Wondercon 2009 Designer Toys Recap
Wondercon isn’t about toys; it’s about comics: superheroes, Star Wars, cosplayers and comics. Semantics aside, Comic-Con has more toys. That said, we scoured Wondercon in San Francisco’s Moscone Center for several hours seeking out the toys. We were happily surprised by who and what we found. Read on for vinyl, plush, plastic and resin–from prototypes without websites all the way to finished convention exclusives. Like the VTN 08 convention coverage, this was another event I wrote up with quick, yet thorough, individual posts and then a linkable round-up.
Totally Nerding Out
I’m being indulgent and reposting this comic of sorts. Just hit the scroll bar and view it at your own pace. After I wrote a post about the Bunk Bots, Jason Hilbourne offered to send me a pair of the plush robots with the agreement that I’d make a Bunk Bot video. Well, I didn’t exactly make a video, but I put together a quasi B-movie CGI-free comic with some toy celebrity appearances.
In this Bunk Bots adventure, Stepper and Night Vision Pinch arrive near ToyCyte headquarters on a mission to save the world. Along the way they meet other space adventurers, like the IWG Astrokrieg team, a Wheaty Wheat Space Crab and a bunch of Dalek’s Spacebots. A Barack Obama action figure also has an important cameo.
